Hello my Scripturients,
How are you my friends, I am doing really good. Camp Nanowrimo has begun, my book is in pre-orders, beta edits are coming in, I AM OUT OF MY READING SLUMP! It's great! I've read four books in the last two months, but I am writing this on July 4th, and I have already finished two books sooooo its great. So in May and June I read a total of  1,444 pages and had an average rating of  4.5. What have you been reading? What was your favorite book of May or June? I think mine was Shatter Me.
I feel like I am really sporadic right now, I just got this weird burst of energy so I am going to work on edits! Love you!

Marines (Derelict Saga #1)
by Paul Elard Cooley
Kindle Edition, 274 pages
Published January 6th 2017 by Severed Press
4 Stars
Fifty years ago, Mira, humanity’s last hope to find new resources, exited the solar system bound for Proxima Centauri b. Seven years into her mission, all transmissions ceased without warning. Mira and her crew were presumed lost. Humanity, unified during her construction, splintered into insurgency and rebellion.

Now, an outpost orbiting Pluto has detected a distress call from an unpowered object entering Sol space: Mira has returned. When all attempts at communications fail, S&R Black, a Sol Federation Marine Corps search and rescue vessel, is dispatched from Trident Station to intercept, investigate, and tow the beleaguered Mira to Neptune.

As the marines prepare for the journey, uncertainty and conspiracy fomented by Trident Station’s governing AIs, begin to take their toll. Upon reaching Mira, they discover they’ve been sent on a mission that will almost certainly end in catastrophe.
The Derelict saga is a suspenseful mashup of hard military sci-fi, space opera, and mystery.

Some mysteries shouldn’t be solved.

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Their mission was to recover an ancient derelict from the farthest edge of the Sol system. What they’ve found could spell the end of humanity.

Trapped on the Mira, Corporal Kalimura must lead her squad of injured marines to safety. But, aboard the derelict, every shadow is a possible threat, and around every corner lurks another hazard. Without life support or gravity, and only their suit lights to see by, they must explore the ancient wreck to find a way to communicate with their ship and escape their hellish prison.

The remaining crew aboard S&R Black struggle to tow Mira out of the path of an incoming Kuiper Belt Object only to realize that the non-sentient hazard is the least of their worries.

Derelict: Tomb, book 2 of the Derelict Saga, is an action-packed mashup of suspense, military sci-fi, and space opera horror that will keep you guessing every turn of the page.

As the inhabitants of Redwall Abbey bask in the glorious Summer of the Late Rose, all is quiet and peaceful. But things are not as they seem. Cluny the Scourge, the evil one-eyed rat warlord, is hell-bent on destroying the tranquility as he prepares to fight a bloody battle for the ownership of Redwall. This dazzling story in the Redwall series is packed with all the wit, wisdom, humor, and blood-curdling adventure of the other books in the collection, but has the added bonus of taking the reader right back to the heart and soul of Redwall Abbey and the characters who live there.

Command Decisions (The Empire of Bones Saga #3)
by Terry Mixon

3 Stars
Between a rock and a hard place!

After winning a hard-fought victory, Commander Jared Mertz and Princess Kelsey discover another insidious foe blocking their way home. A remnant of the Old Empire still exists and seems allied with the savage, AI-dominated Pale Ones.

With the existence of the Terran Empire at stake, another enemy, this one from Jared’s past, threatens everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Jared and Kelsey must fight for survival while the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

My thoughts: While this was not my favorite book in the Empire of Bones Saga, Mixon still spun an engaging story full of questions begging to be answered, interesting and complex relationships, and badass fight scenes.

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha's past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

My Reaction:
An amazing closing to one of my favorite series. It left me begging for more, I really hope we see more work from these two authors working together.

Outbreak (The Black #3)
by Paul Elard Cooley

4 Stars
When a Centers for Disease Control quarantine fails at Ben Taub Hospital, a Houston SWAT Team is sent in to secure the facility. What they find is destruction and death. Trapped in the hospital, cut off from the world, a mysterious voice on the radio is all they have to guide them. They're no longer on a mission to quarantine the remaining inhabitants. Instead, they have to destroy a multiplying menace that could infect the world before the Federal Government enacts a final solution.

Outbreak is a standalone, parallel story to both the 2015 Parsec Award Winning Novel The Black and The Black: Arrival. A winning mashup of action and horror, Outbreak is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing at what's around the next corner.

My Thoughts: This series continues to be one of the most interesting series that I have read in it's presentation. The episodic like series left me wanting more, and feeling chills at every turn. DRS podcast host Paul E Cooley needs to write the last book soon!

March Updates: Editing, and Some April Plans

3/30/2018

Hello my Scripturients,
March... March was the month that I told myself I was going to come forward full force for my blog and for my youtube channel... instead I fell off the face of the earth. I didn't read that much that month, I didn't really get to write or edit all that much, however I did have a really great month.  I have started the apartment hunting process with two of my favorite people, I have gotten another job which should make me a bit more moolla $$ and make it easier for me to meet my publishing goals... after I pay the bills.
This month I stepped into another management roll in the theater for my old high school and have a few new avenues coming up for me. So while I haven't been as productive as I wanted to, and I can't check the box for that goal I can check the box saying I took care of myself and felt genuinely happy. And I personally think that that is all that matters.

Picture
I do still have ideas for several videos that I was going to put out, and I still plan on putting those videos out. So you will see newer videos on my youtube. I am also going to be doing Camp NaNoWriMo again, and I will be doing weekly vlogs again this time around. I did want to work on a different project but I will be using it as a push to get my edits done. I am creating a cabin for it similar to what Kristen Martin and Vivien Reis did last year. We all have our own projects and goals but doing these little daily check-in's makes all the difference. It really holds you accountable. If you would like to join my cabin click HERE to go to my account and send me a message and I will add you! This has been open since Monday so I want to apologize in advance if you miss that chance, we could still do buddy messages.
So Katelyn how did your editing actually go for the month?
Wellllll.... I finished editing the physical proof
*wooooooo* *Insert crowd noises here*
Butttt I only transcribed three of those chapters. *Whomp whomp whomp* While it doesn't take me to long to find edits and write them into the book, it takes much, much longer to put those edits into the computer. Much longer than I anticipated. So if you again, if you wanna be able to yell at me if I don't edit join me for Camp Nanowrimo! I am going to try much, much harder to be more active, even with jobs and moving in two months.... HELP
Goal: Have book edited and in beta process by June 1st.
Make me do this people!

Love,
Katelyn

February Writing Update, and March Goals

3/2/2018

Picture
Hello Scripturients,
I know February is a fast month. But it felt like a really  fast month this year. I have been incredibly busy finishing a run of a musical, subbing at school, and working on finding another part time job. But I did manage to get a few of the goals done for February.
1. Edit through page 357/ Chapter 37
This was a pretty loft goal for myself seeing as I only edited up to page 103 in January. That being said I did get edited up to page XXX. Down below you will see a vlog from last weekend when I spent all day editing and managed to get up to page 245. 100 pages in one day. Now if I edit at least 15 pages a day I will make my goal of getting edits done by 3/15.
2. Continue to Outline ISS Project
I sort of did this. I made a great list of outline and scene ideas... but it got lost. :( So I have quite a few different bits and pieces of scenes but that structure I had, fell out of my bag, or my notebook. I have an idea of what was down. But losing the paper took away a lot of the confidence that I had. I still need to do quite a bit of research on military training before I start writing.
3.Print proof copy of Silver Manor for future edits.
Check I did this! I plan on working on the edits for this when I get The Frituals out for edits in April.
My March Goals:
1. Finish Edits in physical proof by 3/15
I need to finish the edits of The Frituals. I have a few things planned out for it which I will share in a later video or blog post. So I need to get through the last 200 ish pages in 15 days.
2. Transfer edits and format for beta's and crit partners
Starting 3/1 I need to start transferring the edits into my computer document so I can send out for beta edits starting April 2nd. If you think you want to be part of that process check back here 3/15 where I will have more information on how to get involved.
3. Order a new proof, once create space, one Ingram spark
Once I get all those edits transferred over I want to take advantage of the NaNoWriMo winning goodie of getting to upload a free file to Ingram spark and get a free proof. I want to compare the books from create space and Ingram for myself to make a decision for my future books.
To see more updates from me follow me around on social media the links will be down below.
Love,
Katelyn

January and February Reading Wrap Up

2/28/2018

Hello Scripturients,
The last two monthes have been a whirlwind for me. I have been putting together a world premiere musical, editing, and working. I haven't been able to sit down and film in two weeks let alone read. But I did manage to read 5 books over the last two months. My average for the two months was 4 stars and I read 1,387 pages over the last two months.

The Black (The Black #1) by Paul Elard Cooley

Picture
4 Stars
Under 30,000 feet of water, the exploration rig Leaguer has discovered an oil field larger than Saudi Arabia, with oil so sweet and pure, nations would go to war for the rights to it. But as the team starts drilling exploration well after exploration well in their race to claim the sweet crude, a deep rumbling beneath the ocean floor shakes them all to their core. Something has been living in the oil and it's about to give birth to the greatest threat humanity has ever seen.

Arrival (The Black #2) by Paul Elard Cooley

Picture
4 Stars
The crew of the deep-sea exploration rig Leaguer discovers oil sweeter, purer, and sure to be more easily refined than anything that’s ever existed. To confirm their own analysis of their billion dollar find, a test barrel is flown from the drill site off the coast of Papua/New Guinea to Houston Analytical Laboratories (HAL).

As the unsuspecting scientists at HAL await the arrival of the oil, they ready their lab for what they know is an important job. They’ve seen the test results from Leaguer; this find could make history.

While the barrel is on its way to Houston, an “infection” breaks out on the far-away rig. And as life aboard the rig descends into chaos, the scientists at HAL make their own discovery—what Leaguer found is indeed historic; it just isn’t oil. Instead, they’ve brought up a dangerous organism that could threaten all life on earth.

Trapped in their labs, the scientists must find a way to fight a creature that defies chemistry, physics, and biology.

The Black: Arrival, a parallel story to the Amazon Horror Best-Seller The Black, is a page-turning suspense novel that will fill you with claustrophobic terror.

Now that The Black has arrived, will humanity survive?

Ready Player One (Ready Player One #1) by Ernest Cline

Picture
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

Empire of Bones (The Empire of Bones Saga #1) by Terry Mixon

Picture
The Terran Empire is dead. Long live the Empire!

Commander Jared Mertz, the bastard son of the Emperor, and his half-sister, Princess Kelsey, barely speak to one another. To their dismay, their father seizes an opportunity to change that and sends them on a dangerous quest to explore the fallen Empire.

Separated from home by an impassable gulf and struggling to redefine their relationship, they find themselves thrust into a vicious war. Unless they work together to stop the Empire’s deadly legacy, billions face a horrific fate.

Veil of Shadows (The Empire of Bones Saga #2) by Terry Mixon

Picture
It's always darkest before the dawn!

In Empire of Bones, Commander Jared Mertz and Princess Kelsey scored a stunning victory over the savage Pale Ones. Yet they paid a terrible price for it, one that left their ship crippled and changed the Princess forever.

As Kelsey struggles to master the combat enhancements the Pale Ones forcibly implanted inside her and Jared works feverishly to resurrect an ancient battlecruiser, they discover the Pale Ones aren’t as defeated as they seemed.

Jared and Kelsey race to unravel the secrets behind the ancient rebellion that destroyed galactic civilization and thwart unseen foes determined to take their new ship and their lives. If they fail, an entire planet dies.

January Writing Wrap Up

1/31/2018

Hello my Scripturients!
So, it is the last day in January. 2018 huh... I don't know about you but for me, 2018 has started by digging in it's heels and refusing to budge. That is to say I feel in some ways I have fallen flat on my face. What can I say? Adulting sucks! I haven't been able to work on the my projects just as much as I would have like to but I am getting there. Like I said in my last update I have been plotting and planning several different books while editing my book. I still want to try and get the edits for this draft formated by March 30th, it just means I need to try to make more time for myself.
So how have I been doing?
The Goals of the Month:
Edit To page 200
- I have only been edit to page 103 so far. Starting work as a substitute teacher, and working on my the musical has caused my life to be locked into a cycle. Sleep, go to school, drive, rehearsal, drive, sleep. I don't have much free time in between. I am actually writing this on a day when rehearsal was cancelled, I am not really sure when I would have written it otherwise....
Start Outline for ISS Project
I did this! I am working on a Sci-Fi project and it has been blooming and building in my head everyday. I have been able to make major headway in this due to Evernote! I definitely recommend using Evernote if you are always on the go like I currently I am.

So I really only had those two goals for January, and I am going to have similar goals for February.
1. Edit through page 357/ Chapter 37
2. Continue to Outline ISS Project
3.Print proof copy of Silver Manor for future edits.

Thank you for all the motivation through out the month. To see more updates from me follow me around on social media the links will be down below.
Love,
Katelyn

Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Camp Nanowrimo Writing Update #21

8/9/2017

Picture
Camp Nanowrimo, the event that happens twice a year that for some reason I can never win.

Bookworms,
I come to you again on the side of defeat when it comes to Camp Nanowrimo. I talked with a few people in my writing cabin this year and we all felt the same. Camp Nanowrimo in April and in July has no where near the same feeling as it does in November. There isn't the same urgancey to write when you make the goals, and sometimes no matter how high the goal is, you just can't seem to reach it. There were several days last November where I was writing close to 3000 words. This past July? I couldn't get down more than 1000 a day sometimes every two days if I was lucky? Why is it different? I don't really have an answer for that.
I had plenty of ideas in mind for the story since it is my thesis. I had a start of an outline, at least a general path I could mosey my way though, and I had a cabin filled with some wonderful people including Kristen Martin and Vivian Reis on youtube. But for some reason when ever I sat down to write the ideas would hit a wall and refuse to flow. My goal for the summer is to write 55,000 words by August 31st. As of right now I am on my way, trying to sit down and write a few hundred words everyday, but it has been a struggle. I have changed things as I went and thought of new things for my characters that requires deleting and rewriting several scenes. But progress doesn't always have to be linear.  That is something I learned this past month. Even if I can't get through a scene I can still write others. It is taking me weeks to get through one plot point. It just won't come out, but I know others will so, I bounce around. Editing me may absolutely HATE this action later. But for now it is what I need to do to get the words on the page.
I want to get back into doing these writing updates more regularly if this is something you want to see too, let me know on twitter at @scripturineting or on instagram @scripturient101
Thesis Stats
Start of July: 3,000 (ish) words
End of July: 16,771 words
Words left for summer goal: 38,229

Dear Bookworms,
This month sucked for reading. I just wanna put that out there now. I am four books behind on my goodreads reading. But it is okay, I probably have that many started right now that I just haven't finished. I am not going to do a tbr for this month. I am just gunna work on finishing the books I started and maybe starting some others.

The Sorceress by Michael Scott

Nicholas Flamel's heart almost broke as he watched his beloved Paris crumble before him. The city was destroyed by Dee and Machiavelli, but Flamel played his own role in the destruction. Sophie and Josh Newman show every sign of being the twins of prophecy, and Flamel had to protect them and the pages from the Dark Elders.

But Nicholas grows weaker with each passing day. Perenelle is still trapped in Alcatraz, and now that Scatty has gone missing, the group is without protection. Except for Clarent—the twin sword to Excalibur. But Clarent’s power is unthinkable, its evil making it nearly impossible to use without its darkness seeping into the soul of whoever wields it.

If he hopes to defeat Dee, Nicholas must find an Elder who can teach Josh and Sophie the third elemental magic—Water Magic. The problem? The only one who can do that is Gilgamesh, and he is quite, quite insane.

If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki--and the price he wants is very high.

Hello Bookworms,
Today I wanted to show you the books I read this month. It felt like the month of March went by so fast, but also so slow. So this month I wanted to read, Wicked, and the Series of the Mortal Nicholas Flamel Series. I did that... well I didn't read Wicked. I have no idea where Wicked is right now. Truth be told I didn't even look for it. I read 5 books this month, and my average for the month was 3.8 stars. That would be because of a one star DNF.
My April TBR will be posted tomorrow on my Youtube Channel at roughly 11am.

When kingdom come, there will be one.

In   every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.

It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty and Nicholas Flamel lives. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.

Ashes to ashes…

California:
In the hands of Dr. John Dee and the Dark Elders, the book of Abraham the Mage could mean the destruction of the world as we know it. The most powerful book of all time, it holds the secret of eternal life—a secret more dangerous than any one man should ever possess. And Dee is two pages away from the knowledge that would bring the Dark Elders into ultimate power.
His only obstacle? Josh and Sophie Newman—who are eight thousand miles away.
Paris:
After fleeing Ojai, Nicholas, Sophie, Josh, and Scatty emerge in Paris. The City of Lights. Home to Nicholas Flamel. Only, this homecoming is anything but sweet.

Niccolò Machiavelli, immortal author and celebrated art collector, is working for Dee. He's in hot pursuit, and time is running out for Nicholas and Perenelle. Every day they spend without the book, they age one year: their magic becomes weaker and their bodies more frail. For Flamel, the Prophecy is growing clearer and clearer. It's time for Sophie to learn the second elemental magic.
Fire Magic.
And there's only one man who can teach it to her: Flamel's old student the Comte de Saint-Germain—alchemist, magician, and rock star.
Josh and Sophie Newman are the world's only hope. If they don't turn on each other first.
