Developmental Editing Services

What is a Developmental Editor?

A structure edit or a developmental edit is an edit where your editor looks into the character development, plot structure, and the other goings-on of your manuscript. You know that time when you are sitting there at your computer or notebook, and you have these thoughts swirling around in your head, but not all the pieces are together? That is the perfect time to get a developmental editor in the picture!

What Services am I offering?

An in-depth critique of the first chapter of your manuscript (Up to 20 double spaced pages.) This will include in-line edits and overall comments.

First 50 Pages- $75
An in-depth critique of the first 50 double spaced pages of your manuscript. This includes in- line edits, suggestions, and comments.

Outline Development- $75
I will work one on one with you to assist you in the development in the creation of a full outline of your piece and the process of creating one. Policies

Payment Policy: All services under $100 must be paid in full upfront to secure booking. A 50% deposit may be used as a down payment to secure a booking for all services $100 or over. The final 50% must be paid upon completion of the service in order to receive the final product. All payments are only accepted through Square. I will send you an invoice via email for each booked service.

Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. For smaller projects, your payment is refundable up until the day I start working on it. After that, it is nonrefundable. For full manuscripts, your money is fully refundable as long as you cancel two weeks in advance. If you cancel less than two weeks in advance, there is a 20% fee.
Do you offer sample critiques? Of course! For those who are interested in booking a full manuscript critique, I offer free 3-page sample edits. It's essential to make sure that you're comfortable with my editing style before booking; this makes for the beginning of what I hope is an open, honest discourse about your work.
What experience do you have? I have a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and have been writing my work for years. I have also critiqued several creative writing competitions over the last two years. That being said, I can by no means claim to be infallible. If I did, that would be a blatant lie.
What's your editing style? Being open and available for a conversation on both sides is the best way I have found for an effective critique. It is best to remember that one person's perspective is not the set-in-stone way all will read it. I try to give feedback as I picture your world and how it hits me. I give critiques that ask questions of the author, using it to broaden their perspective of their world. If I find a section that I believe could be altered slightly to create a stronger feel, I will create a conversation with the author to help them create a solution. I believe that the solution lies within all of us, sometimes we just need a bit of extra prodding. I won't tell you that you have to fix it this exact way. That wouldn't be helpful for either of us to learn from the experience.
What's your turnaround time? It depends on the project, but I aim to complete full manuscript critiques in a month and small critiques within 1-2 weeks.
What format should my manuscript be in?
Please send your MS as a .doc or .docx file. I use Word and track changes to make the edits. Also, your MS needs to be in the traditional MS format: Times New Roman, Size 12, double spaced.
Is there any category or genre you won't edit?
In terms of genre, I'll pretty much-read anything. However, I don't particularly care for nonfiction, Christian fiction or erotica. If there's something specific you're concerned about, ask! :)

**Note: Though I hope my services May help you improve your manuscript and your skills as a writer, hiring an editor is not a guarantee of representation, publication, or sales.**
